"The Child of the Father"
This week we saw a hostage situation take place and the authorities did absolutely nothing to stop it. I wonder how the Elian Gonzales saga would have fared in a completely different demographics, for instance if Elian was black, or Asian or even white, would it make any difference?
Would the whole mess outside of its obvious political implications mean anything if Elian wasn't Cuban? If it were not occurring in south Florida Would anyone care? I think it wouldn't even be on the news. In fact, federal officials would have moved in immediately and removed the child and returned him to his parents.
This means that this situation goes far beyond just the story of a six year old boy found at sea. The story doesn't begin there, it begins 40 years ago, to the revolution that Castro wrought, which replaced one dictator for another. This story really has to do with Cuban nationalist here in the states fighting against their enemy Castro Cuba. It wouldn't matter if Elian was a boy or a dog, this is just what the "terrorist" in Miami have waited for all this time. They have it now, or rather him. They have barricaded the doors, barred the windows, and dared the federal government to come and get the lad. His so called south Florida family, three times removed and if you ask me a few fries short of a happy meal, standing against the law, and getting support from a naive community.
Its not about the morality of sending a six year old boy back to a communist regime. Its about the rule of law which specifically states what is the right and just thing to do. To return a boy to the custody of his father, as a court has so ordered. This is not unique, the same situation happened over 1800 times in 1999. It should be the rule now. Return the boy to his father
The family in south Florida are criminals. They are not immediate relatives, they are very distant relatives. They have no legal nor moral right to the boy and have been ordered to return him to his father. They have openly defied the federal government, they have broken the law, they are law breakers and therefore criminals. The feds should move in, take possession of the child and arrest the relatives. If they fail to do this they are themselves just as guilty of betraying the laws of this country and they too should be either arrested or removed from office.
It's time to stop letting a few terrorist push their political agenda by holding a boy hostage. It is time that the Federal Government do what they should have done from the start. The right thing, return the boy to his father- now.
